Youth More Than Gold 2010 Homestay Program (YMTG2010HP)

Program Objectives:

  • To enhance the overall experience of SYOG 2010 by offering and providing free accommodation to international volunteers and families & relatives of international athletes competing in SYOG
  • To involved the local community in the Games experience, and showcase Singapore’s warmth and hospitality
  • To create a true international exchange experience for Singaporean families, international volunteers, as well as the families of participating athletes coming to Singapore

Program Goals:

  • To recruit about 300 host families to provide accommodation and breakfast for up to 2 international volunteers or 2 members of an athlete’s family (guest) for a maximum of 10 days
  • To promote the Program to the Singapore community to encourage broad and diverse participation in this cultural exchange experience by taking this opportunity to be personally involved in the Games
  • To ensure that guests and hosts are matched such that both parties achieve a high level of convenience and comfort; matching first by geographical location, then by language and sport

Program Scope:

  • The program will offer free accommodations and breakfast in homes for up to 2 international volunteers and/or 2 relatives of each accredited athlete for a maximum of 10 days during the period of the Games. In the event that the home stay requirement is more than 10 days, a second home can be arranged at the end of the first 10 days on a best effort basis.
  • Hosts are required to: 1. Receive and bring guests from pick-up point to their homes, 2. Provide breakfast for guests in the home each day of the stay, 3. Help guests access the nearest public transport to the Games venue.

Applications:

Application forms will be provided for the recruitment of hosts and guests. The forms will detail host and guest responsibilities and obligations. Only relevant information necessary for the effective operation of the program will be requested, and all information will be processed by YMTG with strict confidentiality.

>> Host Applications

Organizations that express interest in YMTG2010HP will be provided with materials for their members interested in hosting. Materials include:
Information booklet and Application forms.

Application forms will be collected by YMTG for processing and data entry.
Host families responding to press stories, press releases, or through YMTG’s website will follow the process for Host Applications.

>> Guest Applications

Guest application forms will be available online at www.ymtg.sg.
Only international volunteers accredited through SYOGOC Volunteer Management and Workforce Division will be eligible for participation in YMTG2010HP.
Only accredited athletes competing in the SYOG will be eligible to nominate guests (maximum of 2) for participation in YMTG2010HP.

>> Host Recruitment

Hosts will be recruited by YMTG, and will be grouped into teams of 10 – 20 host families, organized by a Team Leader. Team Leaders are responsible for briefing, supporting, and trouble-shooting for that team (also includes a site-check visit).
